Speaking

Dr. Dormer provides services for mission agencies on the topics of language acquisition and teaching English. As a former MK and missionary (in Brazil, Indonesia and Kenya), she brings personal experience to her work with mission agencies. She has written several books for those in missions, including Language Learning in Ministry: Preparing for Cross-Cultural Language Acquisition, Teaching English for Reconciliation, and Teaching English in Missions: Effectiveness and Integrity. Some of the topics that Jan speaks on in mission agencies include:

  • Preparing for language learning.
  • Preparing your children for language learning.
  • Teaching English in ministry. (Note that many additional areas of focus are also possible, such as leading English Bible studies, learning basic language teaching methodologies, and leading English camps.)

Consulting

Dr. Dormer provides consultation services for mission agencies on topics including:

Language Learning

  • Diagnosing a mission agency’s needs with regard to language learning policies, protocols, training and services, and providing recommendations.
  • Helping to create both pre-field and on-field language learning training and protocols.
  • Corresponding with mission personnel on individual language learner cases, processing their needs and providing insight on possible approaches.

Teaching English

  • Programs for learning how to teach English.
  • Setting up an English program or service on the mission field.
  • Equipping personnel to be involved in an English ministry.
  • Locating resources for specific types of English ministries.

Contract Services

Dr. Dormer may be available for a longer-term contract with your mission agency. This type of service could involve onsite work either in the U.S. or abroad, and could involve:

Language Learning

  • Overseeing the development of language learning policies, protocols and services within your agency.
  • Planning for and delivering training events in your agency.
  • Onsite visits, perhaps of an extended time period.
  • Ongoing and regular support for language learners.

Teaching English

  • Creating and delivering programs for learning how to teach English.
  • Creating and overseeing English programs or services on the mission field.
