Speaking

Dr. Dormer provides services for church-based ESL programs. With many years’ experience teaching English learners of all ages, in several different countries and in American and Canadian programs, she brings personal experience to her work with church-based ESL programs. She has written several relevant books, including Teaching English for Reconciliation (co-authored with Cheryl Woelk), and Teaching English in Missions: Effectiveness and Integrity. Some of the topics that Jan speaks on in churches include:

  • Equipping volunteers to teach English.
  • Exploring the ministry in a church-based ESL program.
  • Finding curricula and resources for church-based ESL programs.

Note that many additional areas of focus are also possible, such as leading English Bible studies, how to be a helpful conversation partner for English learners, and leading English camps.)

Dr. Dormer speaks both in person and virtually and would love to serve your church!

Consulting

Dr. Dormer provides consultation services for churches on topics including:

  • Diagnosing a church’s potential with regard to starting and maintaining an ESL program.
  • Guiding church leadership and volunteers in understanding what an ESL program entails.
  • Corresponding with individual churches about their ESL programs, helping to trouble-shoot areas of concern and identify solutions.

Contract Services

Dr. Dormer may be available for a longer-term contract with your church This type of service would involve some work onsite, and maintaining regular dialogue over an extended period of time. Possible contracted work could involve:

  • Overseeing the development of an ESL program in your church.
  • Planning for and delivering training events in your church.
  • Providing an ESL curriculum tailored to the needs of your church.
